Hope is Contagious
Have you ever walked into a room and felt your mood change? It happens without warning-one minute you are happy the next-you feel depressed? We are all sensitive to the energy of others, some of us more than others. The key is recognizing what energy you are putting out there and finding techniques to shield yourself from other's negativity.
Imagine a country where our leaders are angry or depressed or discouraged. How do you think that translates across the country? On a subconscious level we all feel that, that negative energy spreads. This is evident in the record number of Americans on anti-depressants.
The prior mood of the country is no surprise when you see the void in true leadership. My generation had never witnessed a unification of ideals, an excitement over politics or a mass exodus in the frigid air just to be a part of history. My generation knew cynicism, corruption and deceit. We knew figureheads that operated on fear, that spoke for dollar signs and raised weapons, not dialogue.
Today's energy is different; it is positive; it is lighter. I woke up to a friend who was searching for a way to get to DC just to catch the spirit of hope. My doorman greeted me with "Happy Inauguration Day." The newscasters were teary-eyed. New York city felt giddy. People were patient, they walked slower, and they listened. Today we all became neighbors.
Research has proven that positive emotions help illness to heal quicker, while negative emotions can actually disrupt a person's immune system. People who surround themselves with optimistic people and positive emotions are actually more resilient. Today our country is stronger in a way that doesn't involve weapons, or war. It is bound together by a feeling of pride and a new sense of power.
What did you notice today? Can you hold onto that hope and make it a part of your daily life?
Best of Health,
Nicole
